Ch-Ch-Changes...

Change is in the air. Can you feel it? No matter how cold it gets outside when the army of catalogs shows up in my mailbox with the new Spring fashions, it always feels a few degrees warmer to me. And I have hope that the cold months are almost over.

With that mindset, I am looking at some possible life changes. Yippee! I think I am in need of a little shake up! A haircut? or a new life path? I will post more about it when things are more definite. I even have had some fun post ideas to get all of you involved. I am so excited! Can you tell? But, more on that soon. I will just say they will be positive changes for my family and we are excited.

It is also time to plan on my garden! I love seeds. I think I get that from my Mother. She would pour over seed catalogs and fully immerse herself in the dirt for months. This year I hope to expand or little plot. Last year with the new baby, there was no time. Even with the drip irrigation my DH kindly set up for me it never worked smoothly. This year I hope to add a little more fun to the usual mix. I hope to try small eggplant, a different heirloom tomato (any suggestions? My Black Russian Tomatoes were a bust last year.), and Japanese kabocha (a very meaty but small pumpkin... the skin is thin, edible & delicious). Maybe I will add some chard if there is room. Those would all make a lovely additions to our dinner table.

It is also the time of year to clean, organize and discard. The latter is pretty painful for me, but it should be easier now that I am done having children. As my daughter outgrows clothes or toys we can just pass them on, instead of storing them away for the next child.

I am also still working on my body. This year I will melt off the baby fat and hopefully get back on the tandem bike with my DH. I can't wait to have pictures to post.

So, what about you? Any planned changes or Spring anticipation?

Aloha Friday #119

Okay. Happy Friday everyone!

I am sitting here in the chair with my trusty laptop listening to cartoons, crying and the sound of my dishwasher going. Fun, huh? Maybe I will get a chance to eat soon. Well, this is my first attempt at an Aloha Friday so here it goes...

From Kailani's Island Life Blog,
"In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response."

My question is this, What is your favorite family dinner?

My family heads up to my In-Law's house for Sunday dinner each week. If all goes well the gals all are there to pitch in and cook while the guys watch my 2 children. My favorite meal so far was spaghetti. Why? Because my Sister-in-Law made the marinara from scratch, my DH & I made the pasta from scratch, and my Mother-in-Law made bread & desert. It was a great meal and my son loved the spaghetti!!!

Leave me your comments and to participate just sign in on the Linky at Island Life. Happy Friday everyone!

Follow Friday - Week 3!

Friday Follow

This has been great! I can't believe we are on week 3 already. I have been visiting a bunch of the sites, but there are so many more to visit and follow. If I haven't gotten to your site yet, I will be there soon. Thanks for all the follow love.

My Crazy Life! Wanna Join?

I am sure that many (all?) mothers of more than one small child has had a day like this....

The baby is teething. She is not old enough to sit or crawl yet, she is tired of her swing, tired of her jumparoo and just wants to be held. Though, even then she is squirming & crying.

I have already given the toddler multiple warnings to sit down and eat. He is eating his noodles in the living room at his small table. He won't eat them without his fork. He wants something different every 5 minutes... first it was a different video, then juice, and then my attention.

As I give in to a few of his demands... honestly, I just want to appease him at this point! His sister reaches fever pitch with her wiggling and crying. As I try to make faces at her, my son slips off his chair. The crying begins and as I scoop him up I see that his fork went into his lip. Not through, thank goodness! Just 3 neat little holes dripping blood and copious amounts of saliva rolling out his yelling mouth.

...that is 10 am. I would love nothing more than to go back into bed and crawl under the covers. Some days I would love to push the "do over" button.

Okay, so do you relate? How do you cope? Is it weird that when I get super stressed I clean? I guess I have a need to control something in this out of control ride called parenthood.

Mama Need a New Vacuum!

Oh, we so need a new vac! Ours does its best, but I believe it was a simple inexpensive model to begin with and I vacuum everyday. I am sure the poor motor is on its last legs. With my family's allergies it would be nice to upgrade to something sporting a hepa filter.

Well, there is a Oreck Halo giveaway going on right now at the Experimental Mommy

The Not-So-Blog's Experimental Mommy will be giving away one Oreck Halo vaccume and it is super easy to enter. Her giveaway runs till 2/16 so there is still plenty of chances to get your entries in.

I have mine in... and my fingers are crossed. This mama needs a new vacuum!

What are your top 5 New Year's resolutions for getting healthy and fit in 2010?

This question is brought to us by Ubisoft Entertainment and TwitterMoms and I am all ready to answer!

Yes, my New Year's goals are still evolving. I really cringe at calling them resolutions... that term makes me feel doomed. I break resolutions... but, goals I can keep working towards. So, what are my top 5 (goals) for getting fit and healthier this year? Okay, you asked for it.

1. Drink plenty of water. Yeah, I know we have all heard it a thousand times before. So why do we always forget to actually do it? To ensure that I down enough of the pure stuff, I will keep an extra filter cartridge for my tap filter on hand. I will only drink water in restaurants. It is too easy to over do the soda or sweet drinks when my glass is always being refilled. And I will limit myself to one cup of coffee... only when I really need it. My drink of choice? Water.

2. Involve the family. I don't enjoy doing things alone and my family needs the exercise, too! There are so many fun activities we can all participate in together that will start my kiddos out on a path to be more active adults. This year we plan on getting my toddler on his first set of skis and I hope to take more than one trip out for some cross country skiing fun. We have a great trailer with sled attachments and my new baby can be bundled up in the Baby Bjorn for a nice even paced ski. I also want to get the family to the local water park more often. It is an hours drive away, but Splash is a fabulous indoor water park. Chasing my son around and splashing for a few hours is not work at all, but it does help to burn calories.

3. I will resign from the clean plate club. It is how I was raised. I tend to feel guilty about leaving food on my plate. I know somewhere deep in my brain this is silly. Even out in restaurants, where I know the portions are wonky, I feel the compulsion for one more bite. I hope this is the year I resolve to eat till I am full. How simple is this?

4. Make time. I am a Mother of 2 and a wife. But, I deserve some time for myself too. I promised myself that this year I would make some time for me. Whether that is leaving the baby and toddler with my DH so I can go to the gym or just hide in the garage for an hour with the treadmill, I will get away. There will always be dirty dishes, laundry and a boo-boo to kiss... but, I need to make time for my health. Simple as that.

5. I will love myself. This is the biggest one and really it ties into all the others. Feeling happy in my own skin is harder to do since my body still feels rather new to me. This is not the same body I had in high school or even college. This amazing body has had 2 beautiful babies. It has gotten me through all night feedings and teething. But, I don't just want to get to know the new me, I want to love myself. Love my strong and powerful legs. Love my curves. If I can do that, everything else will fall into place. If I am worth it I will care more about what I do with my body and what I put into it. Don't they claim that "My body is my temple"? Well, my temple has already accomplished some amazing things in 30 short years. I just need to acknowledge it and treat it accordingly.

Okay those are my 5. What about you? Please share your own tips or thoughts. I always love comments. And check out TwitterMoms for other posts on this topic. It is always fun to read other perspectives.

Body After Baby - Week 3

Okay, my little guy has really thrown a monkey wrench in my workout plans. Even so, I was able to use my Nike+ app on the IPOD touch and record my 2+ mile walks. Not too shabby! It does still take us 1 hour to get all ready & out the door. But, I bet we can shave off a little time every week.

As for weight loss? 1lb down which makes me happy. I am trying to increase my exercise routine slowly. For this next week I want to add in a yoga or pilates DVD 4 times for the week. I would love to work up to once a day.

This weeks question was, what is your favorite healthy snack?

I am a big fan of fruit. I love bananas, apples and this time of year I flip for clemintines. When I lived in Japan I ate my weight in mikans (mandarin oranges) every winter. Besides fruit I love almonds. I just have to watch my portions... just a couple nuts go a long way. If I am really pressed for time I like to keep a bowl of hard boiled eggs in the fridge. Those work well for post work out fuel... that and string cheese. Yum!

What about you? Do you have a favorite snack? Let me know. Also check out the fellow Body After Baby Challengers at Mama Notes. I will see you all back here for an update next week. And if you want to, come join us on this journey to get our bodies back after the baby!

A Mommy's Work is Never Done!

Ah, ... two small children. Sp cute. So innocent. And they make the mess of a small army! Okay, my DH helps, too. How is this humanly possible? Well....

First there is the 2 year old. He is a tornado of energy on legs. If he is not smearing banana who knows where, eating spaghetti or eating crayons then.... well, he is sleeping! Any possible mess he could make he does. And he does it with a smile. I don't think I have left the house recently without worrying that someone will think I never bathe him. He usually takes a reminder of his last meal/snack with him on his clothes, face, fingers or lodged ever so expertly in his strawberry blonde hair. I love him to death, but he is messy.

Then there is my sweet, angelic little baby girl. First off she is teething. So, everything that comes in contact with her is wet. Okay, not just wet but a bit sticky and slimy also. Then she is a big eater and probably has a slightly sour stomach due to the excessive amounts of salivia connected to teething... so she spits up. And she spits up again. I don't even tend to feel the wet on my should before I hear it hit the floor. Yes, that tell-tale splat is her calling card. I just love the fact that she smiles right afterward. She is just so happy to be rid of it. And lastly, she is poo-splosive! I thought having a wee little girl would excuse me from the diaper changing disasters of my son. I have been peed on more than a fire hydrant, and I never seem to remember that thing is loaded! But, my daughter has proven to be far worse in the diaper changing realm. She likes a nice clean diaper to poo in... and on top of that, a nice wipe to the bottom reminds her to push REALLY hard. She has gotten me, front and center, several times. And when it doesn't hit me, she still makes a mess all over her cotton candy pink changing table. Ugh.

Then there is my DH... need I say more?

With all those messes, I never see the end of my cleaning! Between crayon on the tv or laundry I am always going. When is a Mommy's work done? Oh, yes. We are a quiet army of sleep deprived Mommys. This is my shout out to you. My little mess makers will be up soon and I am stealing a few moments for me.... before I get back to cleaning. Happy Sunday all.

Back & Better Than Ever!

Do you remember Rainbow Brite? I loved her in all her cheerful glory as a child. I remember playing with my doll and watching her cartoons on tv Saturday mornings. Now that I have a daughter, I am so glad to see my childhood favorites coming back to the toy isles. Sometimes it is hard to find toys with a positive message I can really be excited about. Here is what Hallmark is saying about it's updated friend,

With her cheerful look and personality, Rainbow Brite has blasted back onto the doll scene with a vibrant makeover, continuing to delight children with her empowering and imaginative adventures as she spreads her positive messages of courage, kindness, and hope.

Hallmark first introduced us to this lovable character & friends 25 years ago. This was definitely a toy from my generation... I would have been about 6 when it came out? I even remember my friends dressing up like her for Halloween.

You can head over to Rainbow Brite's website to learn more about the characters (or refresh you memory), play games and enjoy all things Rainbow Brite. Be sure to check it out and keep an eye out for our dear friend Rainbow Brite in the toy isle.

Thank you to MomSelect & Hallmark for sending me this announcement.

*Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post. I am entered for a chance to win a Gift Card and may receive a CD in the future.

Cloth Wipe Giveaway

I am pretty new to cloth wipes, but so far my experience has been great. My son has had the worst diaper rash in his life and thanks to the help of a few fellow CD Mamas I am attempting to make the switch to cloth. Wiping his bottom with a dry cloth wipe after a disposable (yeah, not quite going cold turkey, yet) has really helped his sore tushie. Right now over at Monkey Tales there is a fabulous Bummas giveaway going on. I would love to win a 10 pack of these colorful wipes in the wild ones colors! Several ways to enter to win your choice of wipes set. Good luck! This giveaway ends 2/1

Follow Friday. Come join us!

This is just such a cool idea to connect other people to your blog. I just had to share! Please share the following love.

Friday Follow
MckLinky Blog Hop

I'm on Team Coco!

Okay, if I take a step back it is a pretty silly fight. But since it is my late night laughter at stake, I feel like I need to take a side.

I was a big fan of Jay Leno and now that my daughter goes to sleep around 9pm I was excited to watch during my "me time". Unfortunately it was bad. I didn't laugh. I actually found him a little mean. His jokes were more pointed than I ever remembered and many of his segments were just advertisements (car races for product placement?). I found myself turning on Jay as background noise as I cleaned the kitchen or checked email.

Ditto for the local evening news. But, I am not going to go there. Not today.

My evening starts when I hear the music begin for the Tonight Show. Conan makes me laugh. I need to laugh. After a hectic and stressful day of being put in my place by a two year old, I want to hear what the country was talking about... and I want someone to make me laugh. I love Conan's bits. I love his goofiness. I love his pasty, awkward confidence. He is truly funny and now I will be losing this.

NBC, really, what are you thinking? You lost me during the morning. Meredith doesn't rub me the right way and your evening line ups are not my style anymore... goodbye Law & Order. You scare and depress me as a Mother. Hello, American Idol & Biggest Loser! Bring on the positive. But, now you will lose me for late night, too. I am your 25-35 demographic and I am leaving. I don't want to watch Conan later and I guess I bought into the whole passing of the torch. I just don't understand why you want to go back. Is this a do-over? Stop switching your line-ups, it is hard to remember what time and night everything is on... and while you are at it, give your shows a chance to find their audience. Seinfeld had an abysmal audience when it first started. But, we know how well patience there worked out for ya!

Okay, now that is off my chest I feel better. I will still miss Conan. I hope NBC changes it's mind. But, since Conan has been a creative force in the industry for quite a while (SNL and sitcom work) I know it will not be the last we hear from him. Go Coco!

wonderful selection of other great toys, so head over and take a look around.
