Here, Home, Hope - Book #Review

Here is another great Summer read to have handy in your beach bag or carry-on.

Kelly Mills Johnson becomes restless in her thirty-ninth year. An appetite for more forces her to take stock of her ordinary middle-American existence and her neighbors’ seemingly perfect lives. Her marriage to a successful attorney has settled into a comfortable routine, and being the mother of two adorable sons has been rewarding but exhausting. Meanwhile, Kelly’s own passions lie wasted. She eyes with envy the lives of her two best friends, Kathryn and Charlotte, both beautiful, successful businesswomen who seem to have it all. Kelly takes charge of her life, devising a midlife makeover plan.

Here, Home, Hope, a debut novel by Kaira Rouda, follows an inspirational story through transformation and courage. Humorous, even amidst a cancer scare and a "Mommy-mid-life-crisis", this book gave me more courage to face my own mid-life questions. Okay, I am not 40 yet, but even in my 30's with two small children I have thought about how my life has unfolded and where I hope to be headed. I have been on my own quest to rediscover my passion for life and find new personal and professional goals to strive for.

This was another great and hard to put down read. Even with my busy schedule, I was able to knock this one out in a weekend. I always enjoy when I can be completely drawn into a story and characters. Kaira Rouda has such a fluid and easy writing style, I could forget about the words and just watch the story unfold in front of me.

In my own life, I have looked at some of my friends and have envied how "together" they are. This story was a nice reminder that even the most perfect looking friends have their own problems to deal with. No mother or wife is ever perfect, but we are all seeking joy and happiness.
