Project 365 - Store Vs. Farm Fresh

Ever wonder if there is a difference between store bought eggs and farm fresh? Which one do you think is from my hen house?

Until my new chicks are old enough to start laying I will have to buy some of eggs. Well, I don't have to like it and YES there is a noticeable difference.

  1. Wow, what a huge difference?!. Which one is which? Farm Fresh on the left?

    1. The more orange, bright egg on the right is from one of my hens. The yolk is stronger and doesn't flatten out like a store-bought egg does. The taste is also better. I never realized the differences till I raised my own.

  2. I honestly never knew there was a difference until we got hens. Ours are free range and their yolks are so bright - almost orange, rather than the yellow we've been taught is normal.

  5. We just finished building our chicken coop & put our first birds out in it, they're only about 2 months old right now so we have a few months before they start laying, but WE ARE SO EXCITED! I also never knew there was a difference, but after we tried some eggs from a local farmer, we were hooked & knew we had to raise our own. We will have 18 birds so we should even have more eggs than we can eat to sell for a little extra money too =)
