For my son, there is:
nickelodeon The Backyardigans
We ARRRR Pirates!
The Premise: Five imaginative neighbors meet in their adjoining backyards to transform themselves and their location for epic adventure. These half hour episodes blend singing, dancing and fantasy. There is no where these friends cannot go with their imaginations.
This DVD contains 4 episodes:
- Pirate Camp
- Pirate Treasure
- Sinbad Sails Alone
- The Tale of the Not-So-Nice Dragon
Run Time is 98 minutes.
He also reviewed:
Spongebob Squarepants:
The Great Patty Caper
I have to admit that I enjoy Spongebob... I even used them when I taught English in Japan. The antics of our favorite sponge transcend language and can be appreciated for their slapstick humor anywhere. And who wouldn't love Gary? The adorable pet snail.
The porous brainchild of creator Steve Hillenburg has grown from a single Saturday morning kids' show to be a pop culture phenomenon. So, you can see why I was very excited to introduce Spongebob to my son.
This DVD contains 7 episodes:
- The Great Patty Caper
- Growth Spurt
- Stuck in the Wringer
- Someone's in the Kitchen with Sandy
- The Inside Job
- Greasy Buffoons
- Model Sponge
My son is still a little young to enjoy the full depth of humor involved in this cartoon. It reminds me a lot of the Looney Tunes I watched as a kid. My parents appreciated the writing, while I enjoyed the explosion and chases. The basic concepts behind the episodes are simple, but the depth is there for many age groups to enjoy. I do have to warn you though, the theme song is highly additctive... "Who live in a pineapple under the sea..." may become a new favorite on car trips!
These episodes are great, with a bit for everyone. Plankton & Mr. Krabs are always good for a laugh and Sandy, SpongeBob's underwater squirrel friend, is one of the more level-headed characters. Yes, a good time is to be had as mayhem and problems plague SpongeBob.
This DVD also was released March 8th and can be currently found on store shelves or to order online.
Also in the mix was a title perfect for my daughter:
Nickelodeon Favorites:
Sisters & Brothers
My hat goes off to Nickelodeon for putting together such a great compilation. This had all of my daughter's favorite characters, Dora the Explorer, Go, Diego, Go!, Blue's Clues, Wonder Pets and Ni Hao, Kai-lan.
For the long car trip this was the perfect selection to keep her happy for hours. I was thrilled! The theme was quite fitting also. I can't say my two children always get along and seeing their favorite characters talk about family and siblings is wonderful.
This DVD contained 6 episodes:
- Dora the Explorer: "Big Sister Dora"
- Go, Diego, Go!: "To Babysit a Bobo"
- Blue's Clues: "The Baby's Here"
- Wonder Pets!: "KalamaZoo"
- Wonder Pets!: "Back to KalamaZoo!"
- Ni Hao, Kai-lan: "Hoho's Big Flight"
Since my daughter requests a new show every couple of minutes, popping this in ensures she will get the variety that she wants. I hope Nickelodeon plans on putting more DVD compilations like this together in the future. I will definitely be looking for them.
This DVD was released February 8th and currently available on shelves or online to purchase now.
