When it comes to fantastic fantasy, this book has it all! From a magical world to it's residents of dwarfs, gnomes, talking animals and an evil queen it would delight any 9-13 year old.
Twelve-year-old Kristina Kingsly is your average unsure and misunderstood girl. Teased by her classmates, her only friend is her pet rat, Raymond. Right before Christmas break, her favorite teacher gives her a strange hatbox that won't open. With a little commotion and surprise, the gift, the magic warble, finally emerges, taking Kristina along for a ride to the land of Bernovem.
Bernovem is under the control of Sentiz, an evil queen. Kristina is destined to return the magic warble to it's rightful place and free the land. Not an easy quest for her to undertake, but she meets many new friends along the way. And what would an epic tale be without friends?
These friends include the lively and quirky fairies, Clover and Looper, as well as the son of the rightful queen, Prince Werrien.
Kristina must be brave and compassionate in order to succeed and lift the curse on Bernovem. Luckily, new found confidence and appreciation will help Kristina to blossom and fulfill her destiny.
This was a great story! I know if I had read it when I was in elementary school, I would have just loved it. Danger, fantasy and the triumph of good always appealed to me. I look forward to sharing this with my son in another year or so and think it would make a wonderful bedtime story to break up over several nights.
Victoria Simcox, the author, did an amazing job writing a story sure to engage her young readers, as it also kept my interest. I also enjoyed the pen drawings througout the book. I know it is hard for young children to graduate from picture stories to novels, but the illustrations added just enough of a push to help coax a young imagination. I hope to look for future title from her. You can connect with her book on Facebook, or follow her on twitter as @VictoriaSimcox.
You can order a copy of her book through themagicwarble.com. I also have one copy to give away!
