#Mamavation Monday - Eat, Drink & Sweat

Welcome to week 2 of campaign 9!

I am honored to be one of two mentors for the current 3 Mamavation Moms. Please show Megan, Shannon and Kimberly some comment love or catch them on twitter (@NcCarterfamily, @Aries_Mommy & @ChristlikeMommy) to show your support. They are working hard to make positive, life-altering changes for both themselves and their families.

Summer is in full swing and I bet if you look around your  home there are opportunities to enjoy the fresh and local bounty of the season. I am always sad when strawberries are over, but to replace them there are blueberries, raspberries, green beans, leeks in my garden and an army of awaiting cucumbers in the field.

How often do you try new veggies?

This week I want to challenge everyone to try one new vegetable. Google it, ask around and learn to love a new thing.

This week I grabbed a kohlrabi to introduce my children to. It is firm, peppery and a perfect addition to any vegetable platter. This is just a little appreciation also for the farmer who grew our kohlrabi... (my DH)

I have been busy in the kitchen this past week, and though I have a few more projects up my sleeve ... bread & butter pickles, watermelon decorated cookies and homemade gyoza... I am planning on spending more time working out. I haven't seen the results I want for a few weeks now, but I know my activity level is to blame. Luckily I know what I need to do!

Yes, I will be sweating right alongside you in the Grunstyle Challenge. I have loved this past week, and I have the sore muscles to prove it. Puke Me Please is the toughest one for me, but I love feeling my arms becoming stronger.

Our Menu Plan:
Mon: Kale & Lemon pasta, fresh fruit
Tues: Dinner out
Wed: Spaghetti & Meatballs (homemade everything!), chopped salad & berries with cinnamon
Thurs: Grilled, Stuffed Burritos (from InspiredRD.com), chopped salad
Fri: Chef's Requested Steaks, Bulgar, steamed broccoli, tomato & balsamic vinegar
Sat: Fish tacos, salad and steamed green beans
Sun: - Family Dinner TBA

BLOGGING CARNIVAL: This week’s blogging carnival is sponsored by Grunt Style. Two blogging carnival participants will receive a shirt from Grunt Style. Answer the following question in your blog post and link back to the Grunt Style website. Link up your post here.

Question: What has been your favorite Grunt Style workout? If you aren’t doing his workouts what has been your strength training routine?

I am loving the Grunt Style workouts. They are simple, but already showing me results. His ab crusher workout is my absolute favorite because even though I am sore, it is the area I most desperately want to transform. I still have a lot of "Mommy pouch" and this is helping. As for the challenge, I look forward to "Puke Me Please" because of all the squats and push-ups.

  2. OMG, I have not seen kohlrabi since my CSA in Miami. Kale and lemon pasta sound so good right now. I may have to add that to our menu next week.

  3. Oh your DH is a cutie! I missed husband week. I always buy something new when I hit the grocery store with the kiddos, but I been inside of it since June 1st and I want to buy my own food so bad. This week I think my DH brought home white peaches and tomatillo, maybe he picked up purple cauliflower too.
I know I tell you every week, but I want to live in your kitchen!
Good luck adding that time to move back into your schedule and keeping up with the laundry.

  6. I am sure that you are a wonderful mentor, and the Mamavation Moms are so lucky to have you! I've been working on getting more of a variety of produce in our diet, I tend to stick to the same few. You're menu sounds delish, I love homemade spaghetti. Have a great week!

  7. We have been getting lots of veggies from the store, but I finally made it to the farmers market this week. My friend also gave me some beets...and that is a new one for me. Congrats on beinga mentor...and for sticking with the grunt style workouts. Holy crap I was just checking them out and do not think I can do some of them. I did save them though so I could work on it sometimes myself...but the challenge would probably kill my knee. Bet you will see some great results!

  9. This is too funny. My mother-in-law just gave me cohlrabi few days ago. Thank You for not letting me know what it is - I have no idea what to do with it though. She also gave me something that looks like a lemon from outside and cucumber from the inside. Ideas? Have a great week!!

  10. I adore Kohlrabi!! We grew it in our family garden when I was a kid. Unfortunately, it doesn't grow well here because of the heat. I attempted them as a cool weather veggie, and I harvested ONE! It sure was tasty!

I love most veggies, and keep pushing myself to try new ones. I am growing eggplant this year and hopefully they'll be ready in a week or two.

    Love you, girl!
