I do a lot of baking around here and often grab a bag or two to make our bread, cookies, thicken sauces or even make old fashioned paste for craft projects. I guess you could say my kitchen wouldn't function without flour.
Of course, we are trying to add more whole wheat into our diet. Swapping out some white bleached flour is easy enough to do with wheat, and even easier with Gold Medal's White Whole Wheat Flour. It won't affect the color of your goodies and the flavor is mild enough to not change the taste of your pizza dough, muffins or other baked goods.
So how is it different? Well, most whole wheat flours that are made from hard red spring wheat, Gold Medal White Whole Wheat flour is made with hard white spring wheat. So, it´s whole grain, but with a similar taste and texture to all-purpose white flour. It is not bleached like some white flour, so you don't need to worry about that. I have switched entirely to the unbleached flours so this another nice option to add.
Don't know where to begin? Just substitute 25- 50% of your normal white flour with this white wheat and you are good to go!
I was sent a coupon to try the new flour, available starting in September, and it took me forever to track down a bag. Sometimes small towns are a little behind the grocery trends! Once I had my flour I chose the Banana -Chocolate Chip Muffins out of a stack of recipe cards I was sent. Mmm... they were good!
With the flavors of banana and a dusting of mini chocolate chips on top, I really didn't notice a difference in flavor from using the whole wheat. These muffins received rave reviews from everyone in the house.
I was also sent a fun Gold Medal cookies jar that will be getting filled just in time for Fall baking. Yes, I will be adding the white whole wheat flour into my cookies. It is easy and tasty, so why not make this whole grain switch?
