OK, don't get grossed out but I LOVE this stuff. So bad for me I know. I was raised eating it. Maybe it is a very frugal Southern thing like us eating squirrel or rabbit dumplings. My son loves it too but we only have it every once in a blue moon.
Sadly this is common. Most of the ground beef produced today contains up to 20% of mechanically separated beef that comes from the trimmings left over from the "good meat" like steak cuts. I was raised on potted meat too. My mom still eats the stuff like every week. It is not bad tasting. Make a sandwich and go. Just don't think about it as you are chewing. lol
knew there was a reason I did not like that stuff come see what I shared at http://www.myorganizedchaos.net/2011/12/canadian-girl-wordless-wednesday-with-linky#comment-213799

ReplyDeleteShana is right, it's a Southern thing. I grew up eating sandwiches made from this stuff. I haven't thought about it in years.
ReplyDeleteMy dad used to make the deviled ham sandwiches and I thought these were similar. Is mechanically separated meat common?
ReplyDeleteThis scares me!
ReplyDeleteThat is gross!
ReplyDeleteEwwwww! Even just the name of it doesn't sound appetizing. :)
