Chasing The Witch - Review & Author Interview

I had the pleasure of not only reading Chasing the Witch, Jessica Gibson's second book in the Boston Witches series, but I am delighted to share an interview I did with her. I just love getting the chance to pick the author's brain.



Book Summary:

Interview:


1. Jessica, what inspired you to write the Boston Witches books?

Magic has always been interesting to me, anything in that fantasy realm really. When I started to write a book, Jilly’s story popped out. It’s been really fun getting to know her character.

2. Why did you become a writer? Growing up did you aspire to be an author or did you have a different dream job in mind? 

Writing a book was always something I knew I would do eventually. I love to read, so it was only natural for me to make the transition into creating my own stories. I never really aspired to be anything lol, I know that’s sort of odd. I always wanted to be a mom, and I’m happy to say that I currently am holding down that position.

3. Who is your favorite character in Chasing the Witch? Who did you have the most fun writing? 

Oh that’s a hard one! That’s like asking who you like more, mom or dad lol. I love how Caroline has progressed in this book, her personality is so much fun to write. I actually really like writing the villains....they are so much fun.

4. You mentioned in your bio that you love to read. Which authors inspired your writing? Any paranormal favorites? 

I don’t know that any author really inspired me, Amanda Hocking was one who gave me hope
that it is possible for a self published author to make it big. I adore Anne Rice, Charlaine Harris, and
Jeaniene Frost

5. If you could have an ability (magical, super-power, etc.), what would it be and why? 

Magic without a doubt. There are so many possibilities with magic, anything can happen.

6. The Boston Witches are sisters with a strong bond. Do you have a sister you based this on? 

I don’t have a biological sister, but I do have an amazing sister in law. I was lucky enough to marry her brother 7½ years ago. Christine is amazing, and she was the first person to read Mark of the Witch.

7. Anything else you would love to share with my readers? 

I just signed my book Haunted U to Hayson Publishing, and I’m super excited about it!!! Look for it in the spring!!!

My Review:

I really enjoyed reading Chasing The Witch. There were a great core of characters to follow and I have to agree with the author that her villains were very strong, dynamic characters. This book had not one, but 3 ominous villains (Patrick, Mary & Sabine) pulling the strings throughout this story and of course I can't leave out the terrifying shadow wraiths. The story-line kept me guessing as to what their endgame was and even when they weren't physically present in a chapter, their threat was clearly stamped on the remaining characters, moving the plot along.

Happily it wasn't a story that I could predict. The author did a great job moving the setting and keeping the plot running full speed ahead.

If you love reading about magic, this is a great book to devour right away. The book may be full of witches, but they all come with different abilities and motivations. Step into the world of witches Jessica Gibson created, and fall in love with William, Jilly, Caroline and Hannah.
