September is Baby Safety Month and Elliott wanted to take a moment to talk about safe sleeping.
Today, 1,000 hospital nurseries, nationwide in all 50 states and in Canada, are using HALO® SleepSack® Swaddles instead of blankets through the HALO® Safer Way to Sleep Initiative - modeling safe sleep practices to new parents right from their child’s first day of life. That is 1.5 million births getting first-hand, in-hospital experience with the HALO SleepSack Swaddle and safe sleep practices!
I remember being taught how to swaddle by our nurse in the hospital. I was still groggy from sleep medication and just never caught on. My oldest kicked and wiggled his way out of my best attempts. So, after returning home I invested in Velcro swaddle blankets. When he was older I was introduced to Halo SleepSacks and was hooked. In fact, Elliott (above) is wearing his favorite tuxedo SleepSack from Halo. When he was first home from the hospital I tested out Halo's SleepSack Swaddle in this adorable print:
Elliott slept great those first weeks, and I could re-swaddle him with my eyes closed. No, really... I was half asleep most nights. The easier it is for parents to do nighttime changes, the easier it is for baby to fall back asleep. For that I am grateful.
Of course, recommendations for swaddling have changed while I have been a parent. Now, they recommend the legs are left free to move while the arms are swaddled. The Halo SleepSack is perfect for this. It has been deemed "hip healthy" by the International Hip Dysplacia Institute.
