After my son was born I was really torn. I didn't want to return to work after maternity leave, but I was also fearful of dropping out of the job market for an extended period of time. What kind of job would I be able to find with a huge hole on my resume? Would I be able to re-enter the workplace smoothly?
Even though I am still looking after a baby at home, it has been over 6 years since I held a job outside the home. Now I work from home, but there are still challenges like keeping my professional and personal life balanced! Luckily there are options to keep me ready and attractive to future employers when I am ready to start working again. The Mom Corps YOU site was created especially for people like me.
This is an online community with resources for improving career, finances, health and wellness. I was impressed with all the tools available on one site. I was the most excited about the recorded webinars from well known experts. I listened to Cali Yost's webinar Top Ten Tips for Work/Life "Balance" and I am looking forward to listening to one on resume building next.
As I mentioned before, I want to stay ready to go back to work if and when I need to, but currently my biggest obstacle is balancing my writing, freelance work and family. This site has tips, webinars, links to articles, etc. to help me with all of that.
I love that I am not alone using these resources. I have access to the discussion forums to connect with my fellow community members, there is live chat coaching available and they take questions during the bi-weekly webinars. And because my life isn't always predictable, the webinars are recorded so I can listen, or listen to them again, later.
Overall I have enjoyed sitting down and learning more about making myself more successful. This is a great resource for me. Over the past week I have scheduled a little time to explore and learn, but there is so much more to work on. I look forward to seeing what Mom Corps YOU will offer next.
