I was given the opportunity to preview the special Christmas episode and enjoyed the classic feel mixed with the modern humor and sarcasm that I enjoy from the show. If you haven't seen Community before, this comedy stars Joel McHale (The Soup), Alison Brie (Mad Men), John Oliver (The Daily Show), Ken Jeong (The Hangover) and Chevy Chase. Talk about a power ensemble cast!
This particular episode is about Abed. Waking up to discover he (and all of his friends) are animated is just the beginning of his holiday adventure. Despite a lack of Christmas spirit, Abed is determined to find the lost meaning of the holiday. His friends meanwhile, are worried about his fixation on Christmas.
Oh, did I mention that Abed's imagination is in full force? Yes, it wouldn't be enough for his friends to be animated. No. He makes them all into holiday characters pushing the comedic potential of events. From Britta-Bot to Baby Doll Shirley, the adventure is a mix of whimsy and just plain crazy Thursday night comedy.
I do want to point out, this is not a children's cartoon. There is a bit of animated violence, on par with animation intended for teens and adults. I enjoyed the humor but wouldn't suggest it for young children like mine.
So, grab a spot on the couch, a bowl of popcorn and join me tomorrow night for the Christmas episode of "Community". It will sure to be the talk of the water cooler on Friday.
