Gardening is a yearly tradition in our family. It helps that we live on a large farm, but regardless of what Dad is planting across the street, the kids and I always plant our own little outdoor garden.
When I was a child, no matter where we lived, my Mom always scratched out a small garden plot or covered a deck with her container garden. We started our seeds and carefully watched over and tended our vegetable plot. There was something magical about watching simple seeds, dirt and water create a vegetable feast. As I got older I graduated to my own houseplants and Miracle-Gro became a brand I relied on for many of my planting and feeding needs.
The Gro Project wants to inspire everyone to try their hand at gardening this year. It doesn't have to be complicated, there are many fun garden projects suitable for any age and skill level.
I love my vegetable garden and we have our seeds already started, but I also want my kids to have their own plants to care for. To get them started, I have collected a few of our weekly salad containers to serve as inexpensive terrariums. Just wash them out and they are a great size for kids to plant, decorate and care for.
Now I just have to collect some gravel for the bottom and will use Moisture Control Potting Mix from Miracle-Gro on top. It is a great way give potted plants the food they need and retain moisture in the soil longer.
With some fun colored rocks, marbles and simple plastic figurines from the dollar store, my kids can create a fun and changable terrarium simply and quickly. I think my kids will love this new project and give them confidence in their own growing green thumbs.
