I hope everyone had a healthy and productive week.
I worked hard on getting more sleep over the past 7 days. It sounds so simple, but as a busy Mom it is harder to pull off than you might imagine. Staying up to finish the laundry or prep for the next day can be helpful, but when it only leaves me 4 hours of sleep it starts to become counter productive.
The first few days were the toughest. I was still tired in the morning and the housework was piling up. Then I woke up one morning, earlier than usual, feeling well-rested and accomplished more in that one day than I usually do in two.
Bingo!
I still have a lot on my plate, most of you know I prefer to cook from scratch, but it was a great reminder how sleep affects me. I am a 8-9 hour kinda girl. Everyone is different, but getting to bed by 10 pm seems to be the best for me.
This past week I lost 1.6 lbs.!! I would love to post my Mamavation total, but I just know it is around 45lbs.
I love this week's topic about naturally detoxing. This is one of the reasons why I make most of my food from scratch. I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I have the resources to and love the adventure. If you missed it, check out My Favorite Crock Pot Split Pea Soup Recipe, and check out all the other linked up recipes at Friday's Healthy Nosh corner on Mamavation. I posted my favorite Apple Thyme Pork chop recipe.

What steps have you made so far this year to improve your quality of life?
This year I dove head into from-scratch cooking. That means I make our bread, tortillas, pasta, mixes, etc. I am trying to fit more whole grains and seeds into the mix like quinoa. And have already found some great recipes. I also switched my facial routine to a healthier, more natural line from Burt's Bees which I am happy with. We were already a fragrance-free home, so I don't deal with many perfumes or fragrant lotions. The theme of 2012 for me has been "Simple is Best". So far I am feeling good and enjoying the savings.
What have you done this year?

Omgosh! I so want your first breakfast recipe (please oh please). I bought a bread maker & I'm in love with bread making & doughs. I don't like the crust baked in it, but the mixing & rising is awesome. I want to get into the cheese making because mozzarella is the only store bought that hubby can have, but I'm worried about the time involved.
ReplyDeleteYou are my food super hero! Congrats on sleeping & weight loss this week.
It's so awesome that you make your food from scratch. I love cooking but I can't seem to get organized enough to do it. One day I will!! Congrats on the weight loss and getting more sleep!!
ReplyDeleteI love your theme for 2012 - simple is easier said than done :) I'm going to have to check out your split pea soup recipe. Congrats on the weight loss :)
ReplyDeleteI am also a huge fan of making things from scratch. I haven't tried making bread yet, that's my next venture!
ReplyDeleteGetting more sleep is hard, good for you for trying to get more :)
Have a great week!
I too covet your peaches and cream overnight french toast - especailly once Peach season hits here YUM-tastic. AND... adding the baked lemon pasta to my meal plan for THIS WEEK - I wonder if subbing greek yogurt for the sour cream would work out as well... hmmm... Than you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove yr consistence and determination - you do seem very organized - we cannot do much, but keep moving forward. Even if that includes giving up some things we love ( I mean, sleep) Love ya
ReplyDeleteWay to go on your menu planning. I need to work on that. My body would be doing so much better if I went to bed earlier and woke up earlier. Sometimes we have to listen to our body.
